Mt Lyford 4WD Training Ltd courses are conducted on our specially prepared 4WD training facility at Mt Lyford Village in North Canterbury.

A series of courses are conducted over 1-2 days, which gives you the opportunity to learn new skills in a safe and friendly environment.

The aims are for you to know and understand how your 4wd works and to be able to drive your 4wd competently and safely off road.

The driver training covers;

- getting to know your vehicle

- snow and ice techniques

- avoiding ruts

- mastering river crossings

- descending hills

- using snatch straps & winches

- how to read maps & terrain

- using vehicle in 4WD

- importance of engine braking & drive chain - learning the art of uphill stalled starts

- wheel placement - vehicle recovery technique

- safety & environmental consideration
